Sportsmark was founded in 1959 by Derek and Jane Lloyd at a time when there was a shortage of groundsmen after the war. The business began by marking out playing fields in the Greater London area. Very quickly, demand grew and our services expanded in two key directions: the supply of goals and nets for community pitches, and the introduction of hard surface markings for netball and other sports played on tarmac courts. These early years established the foundations of a business built on quality, adaptability and a clear understanding of what sports facilities need.

Innovation has always been central to Sportsmark’s growth. In the late 1960s, we pioneered the all-in-one concrete ditch and bank unit for bowling greens. By the late 1980s, when changes in the laws of bowls created new opportunities, we launched the ‘County’ generation of ditch and bank units featuring the distinctive angled return face. This design set a new benchmark by guiding bowls directly into the ditch, and it remains the preferred choice for bowling greens worldwide.
Each winter, our team continues to install County concrete ditches for clubs seeking high-quality refurbishment solutions.
